Acting Managing Director - Debswana.
Ms. Lynette Armstrong is currently the Acting Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Debswana Diamond Company. As Debswana’s CFO, Lynette is responsible for the overall financial management of Debswana’s Operations, including financial planning and reporting, balance sheet management, audit, tax, treasury and governance. As the Company’s principle interface with the Board Audit Committee, Lynette is charged with ensuring that Debswana’s financial disclosures and regulatory compliance are timely, transparent and efficient.
Lynette has extensive financial experience in mining companies in Botswana. Previously, Lynette was Financial Controller of Debswana responsible managing budgets, planning and financial reporting. Lynette’s financial career took off in 2001, where she was appointed Chief Mine Accountant for BCL Mine. She later joined De Beers Prospecting Botswana as Business Manager. In 2006 she joined Debswana as Finance Manager for Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines. 2009-2013, Lynette joined base metals and worked for Tati Nickel Mining Company and BCL Mine as Head of Finance.
Lynette is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) and a member of Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA), and has completed the Accelerated Development Programme at the London Business School, Management Development Programme at Stellenbosch Business School, Strategic Marketing Management at University of Witwatersrand well, as well as an Executive Personal Development Coaching Programme. Lynette serves on the Board of Trustees for Debswana Pension Fund, the Board of BoFiNet, and the Board of Morupule Coal Mine.
Daniel N Loeto
Chief Financial Officer - Bank of Botswana
Daniel N LOETO, Head of Accounting Department - Bank of Botswana. Has a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Physics); Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Master of Business Administration: all from the University of Botswana. Qualified with an ACCA since December, 1997 and admitted a Fellow of The Association of the Chartered Certified Accountants since February 2005; also a Fellow of the Botswana Institute of Bankers since December 1998 after passing the Associate Diploma examinations in March 1993.
Has been serving on the Board of Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) since the organisation’s inception (June 2004) as the Bank’s representative. Mr. Loeto has also served as a member of the Botswana Institute of Bankers Council; Thornhill Primary School Council and an Employee Trustee of the Bank of Botswana Defined Contribution Pension Fund.
He attended the Executive Development Programme of the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business in July-August, 2005. I have also several seminars, workshops and other short-term training courses at the Bank of England, Duetschbundes Bank and the European Central Bank mainly related to accounting and central banking.
Before joining the Bank in August 1991, I taught Mathematics to Advance Level for about 5 years. I have also been a part time lecturer and examiner at the Botswana Institute of Bankers for several years.
Accountant General-Republic of Botswana
Mr. Kealeboga Molelowatladi is currently the Accountant General of the Republic of Botswana a position he was appointed to in 2021 having served as the Deputy Accountant General from 2018. From 2014 to 2018 he was the Deputy Auditor General. Kealeboga has more than 32 years in public service having served since 1989 as the Assistant Local Government Auditor and rose through the ranks until his current position. He holds Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Botswana; ACCA Professional stage from AT Emile Woolf College, London.
Kealeboga has participated in several high level regional and international conferences representing the Government of Botswana and has served on several boards. He is currently a Board Member and Chairperson of the Botswana Savings Bank, a Board Member at African Alliance Botswana (Pty) Ltd, Board Member of African Alliance Management Company (Pty) Ltd.
Lecturer - University of Botswana
Mr. Gobona Tobedza has over 25 years’ experience in corporate, academic and consulting. Seven years were in the consulting and academic environment and the remaining 18 years were at middle management, executive and strategic levels of the corporate sector. Tobedza has held several senior positions with several organizations; Direct of Finance and Corporate Services (CFO) with Botswana Railways, Senior Accountant with Bolux Milling, and Branch Accountant with Grinaker Whyle.
Tobedza is a fellow member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA), as well as fellow member of Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).
Gobona is a trainer in accounting, entrepreneurship and taxation for institutions and other organizations. He also holds a Certificate of Vocational Education and training (CVET), a teaching qualification; he has attended many workshops and has experience in teaching, research and publication. Mr. Tobedza has five journal publications three conference presentation and one book chapter.
Gobona Tobedza is a graduate of the University of Botswana, with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree as well as Master of Business Administration Degree. He currently lectures in Financial Accounting, Cost and Management Accounting, Taxation subjects at both undergraduate and post graduate levels at the University of Botswana. Tobedza is also currently working as a project coordinator for ESAAG (Eastern and Southern Africa Association of Accountant General) at the University Botswana, and also a member of Department of Finance and Accounting Board.
Mr. Gobona Tobedza was an independent Chairman of ABM University College. He has been in independent member of the Board for 15 years and has a lot experience in the private tertiary education space in Botswana. As board member he progressed from just being an independent member of the board to being chairman of Finance and Audit Committee, Vice Chairman and Chairman. ABM University College is one of Botswana’ oldest private university, today it has a student population of just over 4000 students.
In the corporate space, Mr. Tobedza, is an investor in a number of private companies with interests in Insurance, hospitality, IT and horticulture.
CEO- Non Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority
Mr. Oduetse Motshidisi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA). As an accomplished executive whose illustrious career in the financial services sector commenced in 1989, Mr. Motshidisi has built a reputation within the industry for his leadership abilities which are synonymous with a solid track record of achieving organizational goals. His career highlights include inter alia serving in progressively senior positions at the Bank of Botswana specialising in Foreign Exchange Reserves Management. His career at the Central Bank culminated in him serving as one of the two Deputy Governors where he oversaw strategic central banking matters, management of the Bank as well as policy advice to the Government of Botswana on key economic and financial issues. Additionally, Mr. Motshidisi acquired international experience through having worked for the International Monetary Fund and the United States Agency for International Development where he provided policy advice on the development of the financial sector in Africa and project management, respectively.
Mr. Motshidisi has served on various boards, including as Chairperson of Absa Botswana. He has also served as Vice Chairperson of the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), Vice Chairperson of the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA) and was a founding member of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds.
Mr. Motshidisi amongst others holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Botswana, and Masters of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).
Acting Commissioner General - Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS)
A graduate of the University of Botswana and Harvard University, Mr. Segolo Lekau was appointed the Acting Commissioner General of the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) in 2018. Prior to this role, he was appointed the first Commissioner of Internal Revenue at the formation of the BURS. His primary focus was on the management of the three legislations namely, Income Tax, Value Added Tax and the Capital Transfer Tax. In 2017, he was redesignated as Commissioner Operations where he oversaw the Revenue Service’s domestic revenue mobilisation drive. Before the establishment of BURS, he served in the former Department of Customs and Excise where he rose to the level of Assistant Director. He was tasked with managing the introduction and implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) when it was introduced in Botswana in 2002. As a result, he was hailed for the smooth transition from a sales tax to a VAT system in Botswana.Mr. Lekau continues to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in tax administration by providing expert advice across the globe on matters relating tax.
Head of Listings & Trading - Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE).
Mr. Tsametse Mmolai is currently Head of Listings & Trading at Botswana Stock Exchange. He started his career at Botswana Insurance Fund Management (BIFM) as the Investment Accountant and joined Botswana Stock Exchange in 2008. Tsametse graduated with a BCom (Finance) from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia and he is an accredited member of the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa. He also attended Compliance and Financial Regulation courses at the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission, the International Centre Parliamentary Studies, in London, England, as well as the University of Cape Town. He also completed the Management Development Programme (MDP) and the Executive Development Programme (EDP) with the University of Stellenbosch Business School in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
Deputy Chief Finance Officer - Mascom Wireless Botswana
Ms Sapelo Bantsi is currently the Deputy Chief Finance Officer of Mascom Wireless Botswana. In her role, she is responsible for the overall financial management of Mascom’s operations, including financial planning and reporting. Sapelo is charged with ensuring that the Board and Audit Committee are given adequate information on financial disclosures. Sapelo has extensive financial experience. Her career took off in 1992 when she joined Debswana Diamond Company, Orapa as Assistant Internal Auditor. She later joined Botswana Telecommunications Corporation as Accounting Services Manager from 2001- 2002, then joined BP Botswana (Pty) Ltd as Finance Manager. In 2008-2011 she joined Tati Nickel Mining Company, as Chief Financial Accountant. She later joined Botswana Meat Commission from 2011 – 2013 as Finance Manager.
Sapelo is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants in good standing. She also holds Bachelor of Commerce & Accounting from University of Botswana. She also completed an Executive Development Programme with University of Stellenbosch.
Zoë Angela Isaacs
Director-Business Development Services- Business Botswana.
Ms. Zoë Angela Isaacs is currently the Director, Business Development Services at Business Botswana(BB). Ms Isaacs holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Botswana.
In her achievement box lies the introduction of the Labour Relations Symposium, an event which brings together practitioners in the labour industry to discuss evolving trends and share experiences, Development of a business plan for the setting up of a Regional Chamber of Commerce for the Selibe Phikwe Economic Development Unit (SPEDU).
Ms. Isaacs has served in different Board Committees amongst them Member of the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) Committee on Finance and Business Development, Member of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Fund Committee, Ms Isaacs has held different positions from the Business industry. She started her career as Assistant Accounts Officer at the Botswana Building Society (BBS) from 1989 to 1990. Isaacs also served as Senior Project Officer from 1990 to 1996 at Botswana Development Corporation (BDC). After working for Caltex Oil Botswana from 1996 to 1998 as Commercial Sales Representative, she joined Peo Holdings (Pty) Ltd (renamed Peo Venture Capital) as Portfolio Manager. Prior to joining Business Botswana, Isaacs worked for Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) as Acting Deputy Chief Executive – Operations. Responsible for the overall management for the activities of the Organization, providing broad strategic vision and leadership for the operations of Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA). She also held different positions of Entrepreneurial Development Manager (Head of Department Training and Mentoring Department).
